A Day With Sue | Episode 3 [Part 1]

Episode 3 (Part 1): Pulau Ketam (MUST VISIT)
*All pictures are unedited JPEG cos I lazy hahaha

Yes, there's a title this time because this place is special hehehe. I have always heard about Pulau Ketam and how it was a man-made island and it's like a larger version of Chew Jetty in Penang where the houses are built on wooden planks but I have never visited the island before, and it was about 2 years ago when I heard about it.

I was over excited when I know that I am going to be heading there, thanks to Kathy, who is stopping by Malaysia before going to Vietnam. We planned to hike Broga so she could have her sunrise shot but the boyfriend suggested Pulau Ketam instead so we could experience something different.

Taking a train to Port Klang!

Mandatory selfie with the train ticket

Such a pretty view. This was taken on the way to the island on a speedboat.

TT20, our home for the day, and night. Aunt Jennifer, who used to be tour guide when she was younger, decided to go back to her hometown, Pulau Ketam to her family home and soon later, bought another one and renovated it to be a comfortable homestay called TT20.

The hang out area that Aunt Jennifer made for her guests.

Random jetty from the tons of jetty just because it looks good hehehe.

This is Aunt Jennifer's house. She doesn't usually rent this out but on the day we went, something happened and the groups that was staying in the other house was big so she shifted the smaller group, which is us to her own house.

Imagine sleeping on the dock and staring at the stars at night

Boat pass by shot haha

Trying out sunset shot with the guidance of my awesome friend, Kathy.

We were actually standing at the bridge for about an hour for the sun to set. That's dedication, okay? Hahaha

Next, of course is to conquer Pulau Ketam food!

Freshly pressed bamboo water, sweetness beyond words. Just how I like it.

Spare parts porridge with raw egg, that of course gets cooked cause the porridge is hot enough to cook the egg but it's just right for our tongue. It tasted a little bland though, so be prepared to pour some soy from the bottle on the table.

Next, we went to a nearby restaurants for seafood because well, you're on an island so seafood is a given.

To conclude our dinner in Pulau Ketam, I can only say one thing. Although the look of all the dishes look promising and good, we can only taste salt. Everything is salty, not one of the dishes above taste half as edible as it look. I assume because they are surrounded by seawater and somehow the water they used are slightly salty? I have no idea lol.

Did I tell you their burger is also salty?

To conclude the night, we went to the temple and apparently it's either the first or fifteenth day of the lunar month so it was a very busy and lively night. We even manage to watch an opera show. Too bad it's in Teochew so we couldn't understand.

That was the end of one day. Although the boat ride and travelling on train was very tiring, it was a very valuable memory.

Stay tune for Part 2, for the next day's adventure! :)

[Beauty Review] BANCREAM Cover Gel

Most of you should know by now that I don't exactly have a slim waist and small thighs. In fact, I am a plus size who is *trying* to lose weight but before that, I do try to be proud of who I am so I started #OOTD series and try to look good.

Don't get me wrong, I do exercise, I go to the gym at least 3 times a week and lift weights (yeah, the big boy weights) cos I am lazy and I don't want to spend too much time in the gym running on treadmills. The reason why I am not losing weight is because....*jeng jeng* Yep, you got it right! I eat more than my gym sessions can burn so I am working on that part like trying to eat lesser.

So, here's some of my full body #OOTD that I was talking about

Look at the cellulite in the above picture please! So ugly lor. Then again, I doubt that anyone in this world will go like "Look at my celullite, so pretty!" Hahaha

So what exactly is cellulite and why do most of us women have it, regardless our age or size?
Cellulite is a condition in which the skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It is most noticeable on the buttocks and thighs, and usually occurs after puberty - Medical News Today

And then you will ask, what causes cellulites? So here, I'll give you some of the most common reasons.
  • Hormonal factors - hormones likely play an important role in cellulite development. Many believe estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.
  • Genetics - certain genes are required for cellulite development. Genes may predispose an individual to particular characteristics associated with cellulite, such as gender, race, slow metabolism, distribution of fat just underneath the skin, and circulatory insufficiency.
  • Diet - people who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, or salt and too little fiber are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.
  • Lifestyle factors - cellulite may be more prevalent in smokers, those who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in one position for long periods of time.
  • Clothing - underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks (limiting blood flow) may contribute to the formation of cellulite.

So guys and girls, after all the boring scientific thingy about the cause, of course there will be ways to reduce cellulites like treatments, exercise and eating right. Also...

Introducing Bancream Cover Gel, the leading Anti-Cellulite and Slimming gel for two consecutive years in Watsons Thailand, has now landed in Watsons Malaysia! How does it help, you ask?

Cover Gel contains natural extract like
  • Ivy that helps boost blood circulation and plays an important role in cellulite reduction, skin toning, tightening, and refining. It also helps in eliminating waste products and fatty build-ups in the skin.
  • Carnitine, which is a substance that helps the body turn fats into energy and has a powerful antioxidant properties.
  • Caffeine, besides tasting yummy, it also assist in combating the appearance of orange peel skin with its diuretic properties. It also has the ability to stimulates breakdown of fat deposits under the skin. Also, caffeine penetrates the skin more easily compared to other ingredients of similar compounds.
Cover Gel claims to have the below benefits as well

  • Reduces cellulite and the appearance of orange peel skin
  • Improves blood circulation for rosy skin complexion
  • Increased skin elasticity and firmness
  • Smoother skin
  • Reduce stretch marks
  • Help burns excess fats
  • Effective results within 7 to 14 days
Here I am now, showing off my fats and cellulites to do a review on whether does this cream really work or not.

I started using Bancream for about a week but I am not using it as religiously as I am supposed to, which means I either use it only at night or in the morning and I sometimes forgot that I have to apply them on -.- By saying that, do kindly note that my result are not the most optimum result and if you want optimum result, please be hardworking and apply it daily, morning and night!

I can't say for sure that I lost inches on my thigh area (once again, it's because I don't use it often), but with such minimal usage, I can definitely say that the amount of cellulites on my thighs decreased. Thighs are still huge but at least it looks smoother as the amount of cellulites reduced. On a plus side, the cooling gel works wonder in our weather! As we are battling with heat, our fats are battling with cold and it made the hot weather bearable as it cools me down hahaha.

Bancream Cover Gel can be purchased exclusively in any Watsons outlets at RM69.90.

[Beauty Review] SkinSoul Natural Volume Attack Mascara

Another day, another post and another review by SkinSoul.
Click here to read about SkinSoul's Ultra Soft Facial Towelettes and here to read about their SkinShield Travelling Set.

So what's next after skincare and make-up remover you ask. Of course there's something else! Skinsoul not only provides solution to your skin, it also provides solution to your daily make up, all Paraben free so you need not worry about the harm it may cause.

Skincare counter

Look at the complete set of make up products in their store. They have all the way from foundation to eyebrow to eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipsticks, and even blusher. That's probably all you use for your make up, right?

Part of their lipstick colours. All so vibrant and pretty!

Eyeshadows collection

3 shades of blusher, I suka sangat also!

However, what I am bringing you next is not any of the above, but it's their mascara that not only serves as a mascara, it also helps you grow longer and thicker eyelashes in only 4 weeks, and of course, like all other SkinSoul products, it's Paraben-free too!

Image from  SkinSoul
SkinSoul Natural Volume Attack Mascara at RM195. Though the price is quite steep, it does it's job though.

Okaylah, honestly, I am not a very hardworking person so I only put on mascaras on days I feel like it and it hasn't been long since I started applying SkinSoul's mascara because I felt that mascara makes my eyes heavy and I get really tired eyes after a while. By saying that, I can't prove the claim of thicker and longer lashes because I didn't give it enough time, yet to prove it's magic.

What I can prove however, is that this mascara is super light weight! Despite my fears of heavy eyes after a day of working and staring at screens, I braved my way and apply it one day before heading to work and surprisingly, even after a long day of work, my eyes don't feel as tired as when I usually do when I put on mascara. It feels like I have no mascara on at all, in fact. So after that, I actually start putting it on once in a while when I'm not lazy to brush it on hahaha.

Oh hai :)

Full make up on!

I removed the make up on my right eye, which is left in this picture and there's a huge difference between my eyelashed in both eyes if you were to look properly and mind you that today, I brush the mascara super lightly because my make up also super light hehe.

[Food Review] Yaki San

A few weeks ago, I once again tagged along with Food Ink to indulge myself in good food with some new found Food Inker friends and the founders of Food Ink. This time around, we went to Yaki San, located in Asian Avenue, Sunway Pyramid, near the entrance to where you can see the skating rink (I don't remember which zone do you call it hahaha)

Yaki San literally means Mr Grilled in Japanese is one of the first to bring you delicious, affordable and fast servings of yakitori. Yakitori, as most of us already know, is the Japanese version of 'satay', where meat is served in a skewer. It can also be skewered food of any type in general.

As much as we all love yakitori, there was no shop in Malaysia that specialises in selling yakitori and for those who do sell, the price per skewer is usually pretty expensive. However, at Yaki San, rest assured that you can just nom away at the mouth-watering yakitori and you will still walk away with a happy purse.

Also, Yaki San's special tare sauce is made out of 9 fresh ingredients and brewed for hours to reach the perfect consistency and taste. They ensure their customers that they do not use any MSG / preservatives / artificial seasoning so you can all eat healthily.

Founded by a group of food lovers, they stumbled across similar stalls in Singapore and decided to bring the idea back to Malaysia. Another specialty of Yaki San is instead of using the conventional griller, they found out that the automated griller creates more consistency to the skewers and manage to maintain the juiciness of the meat, which is the machine that they are currently using and they are the only one using the machine as of now.

Yaki San practices self-service where one order their food as well as collect it themselves at the counter. Because of that, many have thought that Yaki San is merely a snack counter where you purchase your skewers and eat on the go. However, as this is their first outlet, they decide to make the Sunway Pyramid outlet their flagship restaurant where there are ample of seats behind the counter. After collecting your food, you can actually take a seat and enjoy your skewers with their free-flow green tea at RM2.

Below are pictures of the skewers, I'll have the list at the end of the pictures but for now, feast your eyes and drool over it, and then, make your way to Yaki San and just eat everything!

Did I mention that they even have deep fried skewers? My personal favourite would definitely be the deep fried chicken skin. Fatness aside, the crisp and crunch of every bite is definitely worth it!

 Yummy-licious skewers on a plate.

Here's a list of the pricing (My pictures are too scattered and random but fret not, everything in this list is definitely worth a try)

[Beauty Review] SkinSoul SkinShield Travelling Set

Hello everyone! If any of you guys reads my blog, you'd know that I've previously written a review on SkinSoul Ultra Soft Facial Towelettes. Today, the review will still be on SkinSoul but this time, it's on their skin care series known as SkinShield. (As mentioned before, despite this being a sponsored review, I will be honest and unbiased in my review to ensure that all you readers are aware of the good, and the bad)

So, upon reading up more about SkinSoul, I stumbled across this website and found out that SkinSoul was founded and developed Dr Joanne Au Yeong (that's her website btw). As promising as their tagline sound 'The Soul Of Your Skin', Dr Jo created his products to be in line with being natural, organic and as environmental savvy as possible. By doing so, we can preserve our Mother Earth and preserving our youth as well. They also believe in using top quality ingredients for the best results.

SkinSoul SkinShield Travelling Set (RM500)* Read till the end for some exciting news!

SkinSoul is determined to not include harmful ingredients in their products thus, all their products are 100% Paraben-free. Although Paraben helps in preventing bacterial growth, it is also proven to be harmful to us as it might produce an agent in our body that has been linked with breast cancer.

To counter the bacterial growth in the products however, SkinSoul uses Ashitaba in all their products. Ashitaba is a plant that has approximately existed almost 2,000 years ago and it has thrived in the rich vocanic soil of Hachi Jo Island in Japan. Ashitaba literally means "tomorrow's leaf" in Japanese because of it's ability to grow again the next day after being plucked.

With Ashitaba as the main ingredient in their products, I had this belief that it would more or less make my skin healthier, even by just finishing the travel set hehehe.

Just finished work, yo! I messed up my eyebrows but I was rushing so YOLO hahaha

Then I finished removing my make-up with the wonderful SkinSoul Ultra Soft Facial Towelettes, look how clean and refreshing my skin look even before washing face. It has never happened before because my previous wipes are all oil-based and it made my skin super uncomfortable.

Let's start with the routine, shall we? I will give my opinions on the products as I go. :)

Okay, maybe you can't see clearly, but we only need to pour out the size of our current 20 cent coin.

Put a little bit of water and you can start washing your face.

Verdict: I really, really like this facial cleanser as it has foam, but not so much that it dries up your skin. I don't really fancy facial cleanser with no foam because I always think that my face is not clean enough after cleansing whereas the one with a lot of foam dries up my skin so bad that after washing, I can't even smile without feeling tensed.

Next, I put on the lotion. Hydrates, energized and pore-refining. Everything that I ever needed and wanted.

Put the toner on a cotton pad and wipe it gently across your face as it will further cleanse your skin by removing impurities and oil that clog pores that lead to blemishes and break-outs.

Verdict: The lotion has a very light water-like texture that actually freshens up your skin when you apply it. With my usual skin care, even after applying lotion, I still feel that my skin is really tight and dry but with SkinSoul, even with just lotion, my skin feel great enough to face the world.

Serum that helps with combating ageing skin by infusing nutrients into the deepest layers of the skin to help restore skin elasticity and firmness. However, with such powers, people who are prone to break-outs are adviced to apply it less frequently as it might prompt beak-outs.

Verdict: As my skin is very sensitive and I will randomly have red patches especially during hot weather, the application of the serum actually prompted more of it. I believe it's because the serum is to strong for my skin thus I used it sparingly instead of daily. The serum is sticky upon application but as it dries off, the stickiness will disappear too but I do feel slight discomfort to my skin after the application, like the serum is too thick. I guess it's just not for my skin.

The night cream will work overnight to repair your skin when you sleep.

Verdict: Similar to the serum, the cream is slightly sticky upon application. However, when it dries off, you don't feel a thing anymore. The cream does not clog up your pores and after about a week using it, I can see some slight improvement on my skin. Oh, and did I mention, this is one of the rare face cream that you can apply on your eye areas as well to reduce the fine lines!

This cream works as a day cream, sun block and a base cream for make up! And no, it's not 3-in-1, it's 12-in-1. Here's a list of what the 12s are.

1) Hydrates and protects skin
2) Unifies complexion
3) Brightens up skin
4) Evens out skin tone
5) Conceals and corrects blemishes
6) Fights the signs of aging
7) Protects skin from UV rays
8) Strengthens skin health
9) Soothes skin irritation
10) Fends off free radicals
11) Stimulates skin rejuvenation
12) Imparts radiant glow to facial countenance

Here's an example to show you that the day cream follows your skin tone as you apply it on, yet it evens out your skin tone, something I desperately need too!

JENG JENG!

Verdict: I have had my fair share of experience using sunblock that acts as a base cream as well and most of them, as I can remember has very thick texture that end up clogging up my pores and make my skin feel uncomfortable along the day but surprisingly, this particular cream does the exact opposite. Not only does the cream even out my skin tone, my skin don't feel clogged up and my skin is able to breath throughout the day. Definitely one of my favourite!

Now that you've read the reviews, I hope you have a better idea on how each of the skin care products from SkinSoul may or may not benefit you.
