The name is Sue-Anne and I hail from an awesome island in Malaysia known as Penang, where my heart still belongs (then again, food in Penang is still the best!). I made my way to Kuala Lumpur when I was 19 to study and somehow stayed on to work. What to do when all the big companies are here in KL and I need more salary to survive because foods are expensive. Hahaha. I am currently working in the advertising industry. I still couldn't believe that I am here, doing what I am doing. *deep thoughts*
Although I am working in KL, I will always find time to go back to Penang to visit my family, and also to fill up my tummy with the cravings I have had for the period of time I was away from home. Last week, I finally had the chance to go home! I did not get a chance to eat till my heart's content but I did get to eat some good food.
Our journey to hunt for food started on a Saturday as we arrived on a Friday night.
Place: My Voice Cafe & Studio
We were going rounds around our place to look for food and mom remembered about the Big Bowl Noodles place that her friends shared with her so we went to try it out since all of us are famished and our brain lack of the juices required to think.
I was surprised at the size of the bowl. Need or not so big for two person! Hahaha. This is the seafood noodles, I forgot the name.
The face of an omnomnom-nivore. See how big the bowl is!
Verdict: Despite the negative comments that I have heard and gathered from people around and the internet, I on the other hand, think that the noodles is actually quite good. I love the soup base. Okaylah, maybe not spicy that's why I like because I can't take spicy food.
The next day, on a Sunday morning, dad drove us to Bagan Lalang, Butterworth to fill my tummy with yummy seafoods. Dad warned us to wake up early so that we can reach the place before 12pm as the crowd will start to gather during lunch time. It takes us about 40 minutes to reach as we are staying in the island.
Place: Ong Cheng Huat Seafood, Bagan Lallang, Butterworth
These are some of the foods that we ordered. We started digging in before I can manage to take pictures of all the food.
This is the highlight of this restaurant. The spring chicken. Sad part is, they are all not fully grown chickens. Look at their size and you will see how small are they. However, it taste so good that sometimes you will tend to forget the sense of guilt. Hehs.
On our last day, we decided to be adventurous and we tried out this roti canai place in Lorong Transfer that gets super high rating on the net.
The curry here receives very high ratings on a lot of sites but I think the taste is a very acquired taste that not everyone enjoy it the same. The roti canai is not really good as they mass cook and it's cold and hard. As for the curry, I do not enjoy it as much as the others though. Overall, I just don't think I would go back for the second time.
Then, it was the time to bid farewell to my lovely island and head back to the stressful city, Kuala Lumpur. On our way back, we made a detour to visit my friend's cafe that is located in Nibong Tebal. Do visit if you happen to pass by :)
Place: Small Matter Cafe
Hazelnut Latte + Pavlova Cake
Instead of ordering a drink, I specifically ordered for coffee art so she used her 3 months kungfu and draw this nice looking coffee art.
On an unbias note, the coffee is good. The taste is just right with the right amount of sweetness with a tinge of bitterness on the coffee, which is great.
However, as for the pavlova, the crust is too sweet for my liking but luckily, the cream and fruits are slightly sour so it compliments with the sweetness. It would be greater though, if the sweetness level is brought down a notch.
Wow, such a long first post! I am now back at work and missing Penang already. Till next time, people. ♥
