Awesome Canteen

Awesome Canteen has been around for over a year and I finally made my virgin visit to the cafe all thanks to a friend who stayed nearby. I rarely visit Taman Paramount as I don't have a reason to go over there and it's not on the way to anywhere that I usually go so I never had a chance to visit till recently.

There is actually a wall of real plant. Look so beautiful from here, right?

Closer view of the wall. If you are going with a group of friends, you can sit at the table right there!

I love this the most! Using an old window pane, they place all the snacks that we had when we were kids. NOSTALGIC KAO KAO!

So the many yum cakes displayed right beside the order counter.

Latte (RM9)

This is the most unique coffee art I have had so far and I approve :)

Artsy fartsy shot with my friend's fashion drawing. Check her fashion blog out HERE (Verbyne De Sunlish)
240 Paleo Beef Patty (RM26.90)

240 gram of beef patty drizzled with leek, basil rosemary infused balsamic sauce with sauteed broccoli and cauliflower. I like the combination of the sauce and the beef patty. The sauce that has a tinge of sweetness compliments so well with the beef that I just chewed and nod in approval until I finished but I was not full from this though.

Paleo Egg Plant Niku Stack (RM27.90)

My friend ordered this and I had a bite. Honestly, I can't remember how it tasted like except that it was quite good. Will definitely try this the next time I am there :D

Sweet Potatoes Fries (Price Unknown)

I ordered this out of hunger after the beef and I forgot to write down the price, sorry! The sweet potatoes are good but the taste is nothing out of ordinary. The special thing (to me), is that they used purple sweet potatoes!

Pandan Gula Melaka (RM9.90)

Personally, I am not a fan of Gula Melaka but I love pandan so when the cashier said this is their specialty cake, I gave it a try and I am impressed by it. The cream is fluffy and the sweetness is just right.

The gula melaka is placed in between the cream and the pandan cake and slightly on top of the cake. Surprisingly, the gula melaka is a great touch to the cake and overall, I like it!
A bonus picture of me trying to look to my right, in style. Haha. I like the colour of my hair in this picture.

Allison's Place

Along the same row as Yellow Brick Road Cafe, there is one hidden shop known as Allison's Place. At first look, you might not even notice it's existence as they are located on the first floor and there is no obvious signboard except for an A4 printed name sticked on the wall.

The entrance to the shop

When I first looked at all the decorations, I thought it was a Thai food place instead of a cafe like what I saw when I Googled but my doubt was removed once I reached the top.

I was welcomed by this when once I stepped into the shop, which made me grab my friend and asked if we were in the right place. So we walked a bit deeper inside to find this.

There are only 3 - 4 tables for large groups so it's safe to say that the main business in Allison's Place is not on food and beverages.

My white mouse of the day :)

I ordered a Hot Mocha (RM6) and a piece of Chocolate Cake (RM5). The cake's texture is quite dry but very rich in chocolate. I am quite certain that the cake is homemade fresh daily cos it doesn't have the overnight fridge taste at all.

The main business of Allison's Place is actually selling furnitures and miscellaneous household items like kitchen utensils and pillows. Besides that, there is also a section for bags, jewelleries, wind chimes and even a small section of batiks.

See more pictures of what they have to offer in the series of pictures below.

Although their speciality is not in F&B, I would love to go back to try their food out. I already had my lunch when I visited so I didn't manage to try their meals but I would definitely go back.

Do drop by if you want to try some homemade food or if you feel like getting yourself some new furnitures or just stuffs

Yellow Brick Road Cafe

I am currently on a quest where I hunt for cafes and to try out their coffees and meals. Also to find out the best and most comfortable hangout spots.

So recently, I've read a lot on Yellow Brick Cafe that is located in Jalan Batai (near to my work place), so when my friend, Mei Sin, invited me for lunch on a working day, of course I suggested Yellow Brick Road right away!

I can't believe how great this old shop lot looks like now!

The barista area

I like how they decorate the cafes with some plants and tree-like decorations and they used wood for the furnitures. Along with the yellow lights and some vintage items, it really bring the life out of the entire interior of the cafe.

However, if there's one thing that I am not satisfied, it would be the sound proofing. The echo inside the cafe is too strong that you can't even answer a call without going 'Huh? Can you repeat?'. After a while also, the echoes would give you a slight migraine hahaha.

Oh wait, another thing is, there are too much flies around. They started harassing me and my food from the moment my food arrive. So rude lor..

Brunches of the day.

Flat White (RM11)

Yay nice coffee art! (haha! I know I very jakun) They made the flat white exactly how I like it to be. There are the slight bitter taste of espresso accompanied by the smooth texture of the milk. Plus the art, it's like 200% haha!

The Big Breakfast Bash (RM30)

Despite the very nice presentation, I don't think that this set is worth the price paid. My set (my selection of choice) comes with scrambled eggs, turkey ham, beef sausage. The sides are mixed beans, hash brown, TWO sweet potatoes, FOUR vine tomatoes, mushrooms and toasted rye bread.

The overall meal (except the sides), the scrambled eggs are good but nothing too awesome to shout about. The rest of the meal though, is too salty for my liking. It seems like the cook has accidentally sprinked too much salt while preparing the meal. The hash brown is basically tasteless except tasting slightly salty.

Eggs Norwegian (RM25)

Meal includes poached eggs on potato rosti, served with smoked salmon, avocado slices and passionfruit hollandaise sauce.

Although there are not much choices on the menu, I think the cafe do deserve a second chance. I've read a lot of positive comments so maybe it's just the quality that day? Nevertheless, I will be going back again. If not for the food, definitely for the coffee and maybe desserts. Hehehe
